The clients were faced with the classic dilemma of renovating a house that was being outgrown and needed upgrading or buying new. The superior location of the existing house, coupled with a very strong real estate market, was part of their decision to renovate.
The merit of this project is that it looks as if nothing was done. In reality, extensive work was done to add a second story over the right hand wing at the first floor, dormers were added to the attic to create a new master bedroom and bathroom suite. The stair was opened up to the space around it, a new handrail was added, and a skylight was added to bring light down into the house, all the way the newly renovated basement recreation room.
